How big a telescope do you need to see an Exo Planet?
Posted by TheAstronomer Team on 25th November , 2008About 13m long and 4.2m in diameter!
Ok so most of us wont be able to see this for ourselves, lest someone manage to get time on the Hubble Telescope, but it is never-the-less an exciting moment.
As recently reported on the The BBC and the Hubble Telescopes own news site the first visible-light images of a planet orbiting another star have been taken.
The image shows the planet, named Fomahaut b, as a tiny point of light orbiting its start, Fomahaut, 25 light years away in the constellation Piscis Australis.
The full press release for the event can be found here.
If you want to use the historic picture as your desktop just head over to another page on the Hubble Telescopes as the they have kindly provided a range of sizes for you to download.
